Best of NH 2013

Grounded by George Brant

To love with all your heart and know that it will never, ever be returned. And to be loved by someone else whose love you cannot possibly return, even if he were the last man standing. What kind of a God needs a laugh that bad?

In this irreverent remix of Chekhov's The Seagull, Chekhov’s story of love, art, and a hapless bird gets a remarkably contemporary face. On the grounds of a country estate, a battle between young and old ensues Winner of the 2014 Helen Hayes Award for Outstanding New Play, Stupid Fucking Bird is about our longing to love and be loved. Chekhov's characters still ruminate on love, revolution and the pursuit of happiness, but this time with a lot more snark as the subtext bubbles to the surface. With music, meta-theatricality, and mad humor, playwright Aaron Posner beats The Seagull to a bloody pulp.

Recommended for ages 14 and up.
