SUMMARY:April 2026 Open Training
DESCRIPTION:Register\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \nCrossing the Threshold: Space\, Place\, and Gesture\n\n\nThe great British director Peter Brook called the theater “the empty space.” Actors cross the threshold into that space and through movement they discover what is inside of it and give voice to their discovery. We’ll work with simple techniques of movement to create a place for characters to inhabit and a story they can tell. Join us for a morning of exploration with company member Peter Josephson.\n\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Training is an integral part of theatre KAPOW’s work: acting\, movement\, improvisation\, voice\, speech\, object work\, viewpoints\, and more. Inspired by a variety of devising practices\, this month’s open training invites participants to explore the elemental qualities of Earth\, Water\, Air\, and Fire.  Through movement\, sound\, object manipulation\, light\, and collaboration\, we will create original theatrical etudes that investigate the poetic and expressive potential of the elements. \nTraining is an integral part of theatre KAPOW’s work: acting\, movement\, improvisation\, voice\, speech\, object work\, viewpoints\, and more. Company members have trained with Double Edge Theatre Company\, the Michael Chekhov Studio\, Shakespeare & Company\, The Atlantic Acting School and SITI Company\, and draw on these techniques and methods for their work. \nTraining is open to everyone 16 and older\, with any level of experience or none. I have nothing but rage and sorrow. And so yes I built you because this is what I do. And honestly it’s not that hard\, you’re basically a chatbot. \nMerril is one of Silicon Valley’s leading software engineers\, but her life disintegrates when her younger sister Angie vanishes on her way home from college.  A year later\, when the police have long abandoned their search\, Merril assembles all the digital material Angie has left behind and sets about building herself a digital simulation of her sister.  The resultant ‘virtual Angie’ offers her some solace – until\, that is\, it starts to reveal new details about the real Angie’s disappearance… \nA moving exploration of the intersection of family\, technology\, and legacy\, anthropology is the timely new play from award-winning playwright\, Lauren Gunderson. \n \n Buy Tickets

SUMMARY:Iphigenia in Aulis by Euripides/Anne Washburn
DESCRIPTION:Buy Tickets\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Live musicians perform original songs with a multi-talented chorus of dancers and singers. It’s a Greek classic unlike any you’ve seen before. In this dynamic imagining of Euripides’ final play\, playwright Anne Washburn renders an ancient story to return us to a world where a father is challenged to sacrifice his daughter to appease the gods. An angry nation seethes and a great army thirsts for blood at Troy\, but their battle ships are stuck in Aulis. For General Agamemnon\, there’s one way forward to glory: kill your daughter\, Iphigenia. DESCRIPTION:Register\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Drawing from the Dutch theatre company Orkater’s practices\, Guest Artist Cory Lawson this workshop explores a European model of devising that decentralizes text\, treating dialogue as just one theatrical element alongside music\, movement\, lighting\, and sound. SUMMARY:ARTiculate: Continuity by Bess Wohl
DESCRIPTION:Sun\, November 8\, 2026  2:00 pm\n \n \n \n \n \n 3S Artspace\, Portsmouth\, NH\n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n \n Bess Wohl’s startlingly funny new play examines what is worth saving and what isn’t—especially when we’re facing the end of the world. \nA sheet of ice sits in the desert of New Mexico. A mad eco-terrorist plants a bomb in order to save humankind. A beleaguered film crew tries to get in one last shot before losing the light. In Continuity\, storytelling and science collide with hilarious and devastating consequences.  The play asks\, “How do we keep going when hope can seem as fictional as a Hollywood ending?” and also\, “What’s for lunch?” \nRead in conjunction with Kenneth Milligan’s exhibition New Aftermaths. \n \n Buy Tickets
