Austen’s romantic classic Pride and Prejudice is given a hilarious twist in this new adaptation from Kate Hamill. This fast paced, incredibly witty play is not your grandmother’s Austen! Bold, surprising, boisterous, and timely, this Pride and Prejudice for a new era explores the absurdities and thrills of finding your perfect (or imperfect) match in life. The outspoken and independent Lizzy Bennet is determined to never marry, despite mounting pressure from society. But can she resist love, especially when that vaguely handsome, mildly amusing, and impossibly aggravating Mr. Darcy keeps popping up at every turn?! Literature’s greatest tale of manners, society and love has never felt so theatrical or spirited than it does in this effervescent adaptation of Jane Austen’s classic romance from acclaimed writer and actress Kate Hamill.

| Carey Cahoon (Jane/Miss de Bourgh) was seen with tKAPOW in as Penelope in The Penelopiad. For tKAPOW’s 2017 production of Living in Exile as Briseis she won the NH Theatre Award for Best Actress. She also won the 2017 NH Theatre Award for Best Actress as Queen Marguerite in Exit the King, and in 2014 for her roles in tKAPOW’s 3-person Macbeth. Other favorite roles include Sarah Goodwin in Time Stands Still, Cassandra in Agamemnon, Julie in Miss Julie, Hedda Tesman in Hedda Gabler, Jessie in ‘night, Mother, and the Pilot in Grounded. Carey has also performed, directed or designed with Glass Dove Productions, Boston Playwright’s Platform, Stage One Productions, the Palace Theatre, and the Anselmian Abbey Players. | Rich Hurley (Mary/Mr. Bingley) is thrilled to be apart of this amazing piece with the wonderful people at TKapow! He’s so happy he has been given the opportunity to share the stage with this great cast. Rich studied improvisation at the Improv Olympic in Chicago and was a regular performer at the Improv Olympic theater. | Peter Josephson (Charlotte Lucas/Mr. Bennett) is in his ninth season as a member of the theatreKapow company. An accomplished actor and director, he has won two New Hampshire Theatre Awards for his roles in Penelope and Exit the King (both with theatreKapow). He has performed with the New Hampshire Theatre Project, the Winnipesaukee Playhouse, and the Seven Stages Shakespeare Company, and has appeared in numerous productions with theatre KAPOW, including Agamemnon, A Dream Play, Macbeth, Buried Child, Stupid F&%!ing Bird, and Translations. He trains regularly with the International Michael Chekhov Association and tKAPOW, and teaches acting workshops on the Seacoast and in the Manchester area. |
| Emily Karel (Lizzy) is thrilled to be back with tKAPOW in Pride and Prejudice! Emily was last seen with tKAPOW as Henrietta in Silent Sky, Maire in Translations, Lisa in Mr. Burns: A Post Electric Play, Frances in Melancholy Play, Queen Marie in Exit The King, and Nina in Stupid F#cking Bird. She has studied acting for theatre, film, and television in New York and Los Angeles, and is a graduate of Shakespeare & Company’s Winter Intensive and Conservatory Programs. |

| Bretton Reis (Mr. Darcy) is delighted to perform with KAPOW for the first time! Since earning his MSc from the U. of Edinburgh, he has worked in many theatres throughout New England, designing, acting in, and/or directing about 150 productions. Some favorite credits include playing Pip in “Great Expectations” at NHTP, designing lights and projections for “Bridges of Madison County” at Hackmatack, and directing “Little Shop of Horrors” at the Firehouse. | Laurie Torosian (Mrs. Bennet/Servants) is thrilled to be performing with theatre KAPOW, this amazing cast, director, and crew. She has performed throughout the New England area, Florida, New York, and London, England. Laurie toured with The New England Shakespeare Festival for ten seasons, and played Sabine in The Most Massive Woman Wins, for which she won an Excellence in Acting Award at the NHCTA Festival and was honored to go with the show to the National Theatre Festival in Rochester, MN. Favorite roles include Joan Plowright (Orson’s Shadow), Loretta (Little Gem), Karen (August, Osage County),and Toffee (The Altos, like the Sopranos only lower). |
| Jess Vaughn (Lady Catherine/Miss Bingley) is ecstatic to perform in her first theatre Kapow show. Theatre wise, Jess has performed and worked on production teams at various professional and community theatres across New England. She was most recently seen as Diana in Cue Theatre’s production of Next to Normal. In the music world, her past hard rock original band, A Simple Complex was featured on 40+ FM stations, won best metal act of the year at the New England Music awards in 2015, and has shared stages for heavy hitter national acts such as: Shinedown, Puddle Of Mudd, Buck Cherry, Sevendust, Halestorm, Candlebox, 10 Years, and Chevelle. |
| Victoria Volokitkin (Lydia) is very happy to be making her theatre KAPOW debut. She is a sophomore at Pinkerton Academy where she loves doing theater and being a member of the beautiful arts community on campus. This fall, Victoria appeared in Metamorphoses at Pinkerton. Previous shows include the spring musical, Singin in The Rain, and last year’s fall play, Radium Girls. She loves to keep herself busy, so, in addition to Pride & Prejudice, she is also currently rehearsing for Childern of Eden which opens in March. |
| Matt Cahoon (Director) is one of the co-founders of theatre KAPOW and, over the course of the past ten plus years has directed over 30 productions for the company. Matt has received multiple NH Theatre Awards for his work with tKAPOW including Best Director for a Drama/Comedy (Penelope, Exit the King, and The Penelopiad) and Best Scenic Design (Raining Aluminum). Matt has also directed for a number of other companies including the Winnipesaukee Playhouse (Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Israel Potter, The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance, and Miss Julie), Jean’s Playhouse (Kimberly Akimbo), and LaMaMa Umbria (Bea and Me). This past fall, Matt co-directed The Life and Times of Lee Harvey Oswald at LaMaMa Etc. in New York. Matt has an MA in Arts Administration from Goucher College and his theatre training includes work with Double Edge Theatre Company, SITI Company, the New England Center for Circus Arts, and Range of Motion Arts. | Jake Hudgins (Music Direction/Accompianist) made his compositional debut at the age of four, deftly leading his extended family through an improvised symphony for cutlery and cookware. He has since moved on to real instruments. Jake is a recent graduate of Boston University’s College of Fine Arts and is currently pursuing his master’s degree in Music Education. Notable career achievements include eating guacamole with Ben Folds while listening to Dancing Queen. Jake’s first foray into writing musical theater, Happenstance, was performed in April at Sacred Heart University under the supervision of Be More Chill producer Jerry Goehring. Jake enjoys performing with his band Fourth Degree, going out to breakfast, playing games of all sorts, and savoring the Golden Age of Boston sports. |
| Tayva Young (Lighting Designer) has been helping to bring stories to life for the last 25 years, both in live Theatre and Architectural lighting. She has worked all across New England with various theaters, fully enjoying the challenges and adventures that come with each new play. She considers tKAPOW her theatre family and could not have asked for a more talented, supportive and imaginative group of people to work with. Some of her favorite tKAPOW productions are: Melancholy Play by Sarah Ruhl , Living in Exile by Jon Lipsky, Grounded by George Brant and Silent Sky by Lauren Gunderson She enjoys the collaboration process with so many talented individuals, bringing the magic of live theatre to all audiences. Now in her 9th year with Theatre KAPOW she is incredibly excited to work on this season of That’s What She Said. |
