Raining Aluminum

devised by the company

July 8-10, 2016

Each December the people of Boston gather to witness the annual lighting of the Christmas Tree. Some of them probably do not know why the people of Halifax send a tree every year or even that it is a gift from Nova Scotia. No one needs to know the story behind a tree to admire its beauty. But the people of Halifax know where it comes from and they remember the story.

The Best We Could (a family tragedy) by Emily Feldman show title on a yellow background with a blue dog leash.

This brand new devised piece weaves together the parallel storylines of the 1917 explosion in Halifax Harbor (and the corresponding American relief efforts) and refugee stories from Operation Yellow Ribbon (the Canadian response to the terrorist attacks on 9/11). While these two moments in history are often associated with great tragedy, Raining Aluminum explores tremendous instances of gratitude and the resilience and fragility of human spirit. We are so thrilled to be collaborating with some fabulous artists on this project including the Czechoslovak American Marionette Theatre and world renown PEI fiddler, Cynthia MacLeod.
