Sophie Lemberg is a fortune teller and a baroness of the Holy Roman Empire – or is she? This third-rate eccentric and disillusioned German fortune teller in a third-rate English seaside resort is visited by the lead singer of a rock band, The White Liars, and his business manager who both want their fortunes told. Things are not what they seem to be, and their lives turn out to be much stranger than the fiction Sophie tries to create in her magic ball!
In Black Comedy, lovesick and desperate young sculptor Brindsley Miller has embellished his apartment with furniture and objects d’arte, borrowed from the absent antique collector next door, hoping to impress both his fiancee’s pompous father and a wealthy art dealer who just might buy his sculptures. When the neighbor unexpectedly returns just as a blown fuse plunges the apartment into darkness, Brindsley is revealed teetering on the verge of very ripe farce. Unexpected guests, aging spinsters, errant phone cords and other snares impede his frantic attempts to return the purloined items before light is restored.
