When a senseless act of violence changes her life forever, a liberal college professor finds herself inexplicably drawn to the very weapon used to perpetrate the crime–and to the irresistible feeling of power that comes from holding life and death in her hands. Peering down the barrel of a uniquely American crisis, she begins to suspect that when it comes to gun violence, we’re all part of the problem. This is the New Hampshire premiere of Martín Zimmerman’s gripping play, which draws you into the white-hot center of our country’s most urgent debate.

Audience Reaction

“I saw the dress rehearsal last night. Carey Cahoon’s performance is visceral, and she embodies the unspeakable isolation of grief. She also expresses the universal humanness of all our inexplicable, irrational responses to grief and our desire to have just one more moment, to change just one thing, to know just one more thing, say just one more word, have one more touch.”

“I’ve never seen a show end and the audience just…not move…just sit there in a stunned silence at what we all just experienced together, unsure of what to do next. On the Exhale by Martín Zimmerman (Concord) is an astonishingly powerful and unflinching piece of theater that you can’t look away from. Carey Cahoon is a masterpiece.”

“It was an incredible performance – heavy, beautiful, thought provoking & had many goose bump moments. I’m in awe of the actor’s ability in the solo performance, she was outstanding.”

“It was amazing. We keep debating the end.”
