Iphigenia in Aulis by Euripides/Anne Washburn

Iphigenia in Aulis by Euripides/Anne Washburn

Live musicians perform original songs with a multi-talented chorus of dancers and singers. It’s a Greek classic unlike any you’ve seen before. In this dynamic imagining of Euripides’ final play, playwright Anne Washburn renders an ancient story to return us to a world where a father is challenged to sacrifice his daughter to appease the gods. An angry nation seethes and a great army thirsts for blood at Troy, but their battle ships are stuck in Aulis. For General Agamemnon, there’s one way forward to glory: kill your daughter, Iphigenia. Only then will the gods be satisfied and ignite the winds to sail to war, and win.

September 2026 Open Training

September 2026 Open Training

Drawing from the Dutch theatre company Orkater’s practices, Guest Artist Cory Lawson this workshop explores a European model of devising that decentralizes text, treating dialogue as just one theatrical element alongside music, movement, lighting, and sound. Working as an ensemble, participants will build upon one another’s ideas and imaginations, transforming the mundane into something extraordinary and creating an original piece together.

Training is an integral part of theatre KAPOW’s work: acting, movement, improvisation, voice, speech, object work, viewpoints, and more. Company members have trained with Double Edge Theatre Company, the Michael Chekhov Studio, Shakespeare & Company, The Atlantic Acting School and SITI Company, and draw on these techniques and methods for their work.

Training is open to everyone 16 and older, with any level of experience or none. Participants should come comfortably dressed to move (no jeans). Arrive 15 minutes early to check in and stretch.

August 2026 Open Training

Join us for a morning of exploration and creativity!

How do we create theatre from the forces that shape our world? Inspired by a variety of devising practices, this month’s open training invites participants to explore the elemental qualities of Earth, Water, Air, and Fire.  Through movement, sound, object manipulation, light, and collaboration, we will create original theatrical etudes that investigate the poetic and expressive potential of the elements.

Presence and Specificity

What is happening right now? What exactly am I doing? What are we doing? What can be created here and now?  Join company member Carey Cahoon for a morning of tuning in and being open.  How do we focus our attention on the narrow, specific detail, and remain available to the inspiration of what is happening in the moment?
